Kolkata, March 19 (NationPress) As West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee prepares to participate in the fifth day of the second phase of the budget session on Wednesday, the likelihood of her encountering Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari in the Assembly is quite minimal.
This situation arises because, while the opposition leader's one-month suspension from the House ended on Monday, he has declared that he will not be present for the remaining days of the session in protest against the similar suspension of fellow BJP member Dipak Barman until March 20, when the current session concludes.
Additionally, Adhikari has commitments for a protest rally scheduled for the afternoon in the Baruipur Assembly constituency located in South 24 Parganas district, where the Speaker is Biman Bandopadhyay.
During the rally in Baruipur, as asserted by the leadership, he intends to emphasize the issues faced by the BJP legislators in articulating their points in the Assembly, allegedly due to the Speaker's one-sided approach.
"Therefore, unless there’s a last-minute alteration in the schedule, it is improbable that the Chief Minister and the LoP will come face-to-face on the House floor," remarked a BJP legislator.
Adhikari was unable to attend most of the first and second phases of the budget sessions after his suspension on February 17, coinciding with the first round of the session.
He has a history of being suspended from House proceedings and has characterized the LoP's repeated suspensions, especially for extended durations, as unprecedented in Assembly history.
Moreover, he has accused the Speaker of intentionally preventing the live-streaming of House proceedings to keep the public uninformed about the events occurring within the Assembly.
