Jaipur, Sep 11 (NationPress) Amidst escalating political tensions surrounding the alleged surveillance by the BJP government on Opposition MLAs using concealed cameras in the Rajasthan Assembly, a group of Congress leaders, led by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Tika Ram Jully, presented a memorandum to Governor Haribhau Bagade on Thursday.
Under the guidance of LoP Jully, Congress representatives, including Deputy Leader of Opposition Ramkesh Meena, Chief Whip of the Congress Legislative Party Rafeek Khan, former Minister Rajendra Pareek, and members Amin Kagzi, Amit Chachan, and MP Bhajanlal Jatav, formally submitted the memorandum.
The Governor assured the delegation that he would investigate the situation after hearing their concerns.
LoP Jully highlighted that on September 9, during Assembly proceedings, the Congress raised the issue of hidden cameras, referred to as the “third eye”, located in the “No-Side Block” of the Assembly.
He accused the government of invading the privacy of Opposition Congress members even after the Assembly had been adjourned, which he termed a serious violation.
Despite multiple requests, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani and State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel reportedly dismissed the gravity of the situation.
LoP Jully questioned the necessity of new cameras when the Assembly already possesses a well-established system for recording and live broadcasting.
“Who authorized the installation of these cameras, who has access to the YouTube feed? This warrants a thorough investigation,” he asserted.
The Congress party also insisted that if the recordings are legitimate, they should be made publicly available on YouTube, similar to other camera feeds.
LoP Jully accused the BJP government of undermining the dignity of the Assembly.
He condemned comments made by Government Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg, who remarked, “The House is not anyone's chamber, bedroom, or bathroom, so where does privacy come into play?”
Moreover, LoP Jully criticized BJP MLA Gopal Sharma's claim that Opposition Congress MLAs engage in “dharnas” at night and commit offenses, deeming it an affront to all 200 legislators in the Assembly.
Congress members have filed a privilege motion against MLA Sharma.
LoP Jully mentioned that Congress sought a brief 15-minute adjournment to address this issue in the Speaker's chamber, but when the Chair denied the request, a deadlock emerged, preventing the Opposition from participating in discussions on two significant bills.
