IPL 2026: Connolly Thrilled with Punjab Kings' Team Spirit and Eager for Tournament Ahead
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Chandigarh, April 20 (NationPress) Cooper Connolly, the Australian addition to the Punjab Kings, expressed that the team's strong bond has significantly enhanced his IPL journey. He is enthusiastic about witnessing how the remainder of the tournament progresses for the squad.
The Punjab Kings (PBKS) preserved their unbeaten streak, securing the top spot in the IPL 2026 points table with a commanding 54-run victory against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
Priyansh Arya made an impressive 93 runs, while Connolly contributed with 87 runs, leading PBKS to a season-high score of 254/7. The duo formed a pivotal partnership, amassing 182 runs for the second wicket and collectively hitting 16 sixes.
“It feels amazing. It's always enjoyable to share the field with fellow Australians. The team spirit has been fantastic, and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the tournament,” Connolly shared in a video released on IPL’s website.
His fellow Australian teammate, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, expressed satisfaction in finally getting some time at the crease after limited opportunities this season. In his 16-ball innings, he scored 29 runs, showcasing his power with two remarkable sixes.
“They shouldn’t be flying flat. They should be going a bit higher, but it’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to bat. The team has been performing so well that I haven't been needed earlier. It feels great to hit a few, and when you swing that hard, they either go flat or soar,” he commented.
Regarding the PBKS motto, ‘Bas Jeetna Hai’ (Just Win), which they adopted this season after finishing as runners-up in IPL 2025, Stoinis added, “I believe it reflects our current success. Here’s hoping it continues.”
