New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) On Friday, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan unveiled the revised edition of the Constitution in Sindhi, available in both Devanagari Script (First edition) and Persian Script (Second edition).
While addressing the attendees, the Vice President remarked, “When individuals can comprehend and engage with the Constitution in their native language, it significantly bridges the gap between governance and the populace.”
He added, “Following the partition, numerous Sindhi-speaking families were uprooted from their origins. During those trying times, the Sindhi language emerged as a vital emblem of strength and solidarity.”
Today marks a momentous occasion for Sindhi-speaking individuals as they not only celebrate their linguistic heritage but also the launch of the Sindhi edition of the Constitution of India, he noted in a social media update.
“I encourage everyone to embrace your mother tongue, and equally, to appreciate the stunning harmony of languages that contribute to the diversity and unity of our Bharat,” he stated.
A message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, read at the event, underscored the significance of linguistic inclusivity in enhancing citizens' access to the Constitution and legal frameworks, as stated in an official release.
He recognized the Legislative Department's endeavors in producing the Sindhi edition of the Constitution.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the Constitution is accessible in all scheduled languages.
He elaborated on the history of the Sindhi language and its inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
He also acknowledged the remarkable contributions and pioneering initiatives of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a former Prime Minister, in facilitating the integration of the Sindhi language into the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Rajiv Mani, Secretary of the Legislative Department, detailed the Department’s efforts to publish the updated Constitution in Sindhi and other regional languages, benefiting from the contributions of the Regional Languages Officers within the Official Languages Wing.
He expressed appreciation to the Vice President and the Minister of State for Law and Justice for their continuous support and guidance.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Sindhi community who traveled from various parts of India.
