Kolkata, Oct 1 (NationPress) Renowned CPI(M) figure and central committee member, Robin Deb, announced on Wednesday that the CPI(M) has successfully launched 119 book stalls throughout Kolkata during the final three days of Durga Puja.
“This year's total will undoubtedly surpass 2,000 across the state, with a remarkable 119 in Kolkata,” stated Robin Deb.
During Durga Puja, the party undertakes a public outreach initiative by setting up temporary book stalls featuring Communist and Marxist literature near prominent Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata.
A CPI(M) state committee member from West Bengal mentioned that this year, efforts were made to establish stalls next to pandals in various neighborhoods and narrow lanes of the city.
“Our party has been operating temporary book stalls during the Durga Puja festivities to engage with the public and promote the study of Communist and Marxist literature. This year, we have made a concerted effort to reach a broader audience by opening more stalls in different areas, particularly in Kolkata and other urban centers in the state,” the committee member remarked.
He elaborated that a diverse selection of books is being showcased at the stalls this year.
“In addition to traditional Marxist and Communist texts, special attention has been given to highlight the literary contributions of two recently departed leaders, namely the party's former general secretary Late Sitaram Yechury and the former Chief Minister of West Bengal Late Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee,” he noted.
He asserted that the party's initiative has been fruitful, with impressive sales figures.
“The enthusiasm among younger readers for acquiring works by Bhattacharjee and Yechury was particularly evident this year,” he added.
He also emphasized that the stalls have been organized such that no stall has ever been left unattended.
“Posters were created for younger comrades to manage each stall on a rotational basis to ensure that every visitor receives attention,” explained the committee member.
