CWI Maintains Unchanged Women's T20I Squad for Australia Series
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
St. John's (Antigua), March 13 (NationPress) Cricket West Indies (CWI) has revealed the women’s lineup for the upcoming T20I series against Australia, scheduled from March 19–23 at the Arnos Vale Cricket Ground in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The West Indies will retain the same roster of 15 players who participated in their recent T20I series versus Sri Lanka.
This squad features a blend of experienced match-winners alongside promising young talent. Veteran players such as Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin, and captain Hayley Matthews provide invaluable experience and power. Additionally, wicketkeeper-batter Shemaine Campbelle is poised to achieve her 150th T20 International cap during this series.
Young talents Eboni Brathwaite (17) and Jahzara Claxton (19) bring fresh energy as the West Indies aim to challenge Australia’s supremacy and gain momentum in this crucial year for white-ball cricket.
This series is vital for the team’s preparation for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup later this year in the UK, serving as an excellent chance for the regional squad to measure their strength against one of the sport’s leading teams.
Head Coach Shane Deitz expressed enthusiasm about the chance to compete against the world’s top-ranked team in Caribbean conditions.
“We’re incredibly excited to face the number one ranked ODI and T20 team globally. With the World Cup approaching, this is an ideal moment to assess our preparations. Competing against the best allows us to identify our weaknesses and strengths as we gear up for the tournament in June in England,” Deitz stated.
“It’s going to be a challenging series, but our players are ready for it. We haven’t faced them in a competitive match since October 2023, so it will be interesting to see how the team has progressed, particularly in areas where we’ve improved and where we still need to grow moving forward,” he added.
After the T20Is, both teams will head to Warner Park in St. Kitts and Nevis for a three-match ODI series.
