Cyclone Fengal: CM Stalin Donates One Month's Salary Towards Relief Efforts

Chennai, Dec 5 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Thursday donated his one-month salary to aid relief initiatives in the districts impacted by Cyclone Fengal. The Chief Minister presented a cheque equivalent to a month's salary to State Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam as a contribution to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund (CMPRF), aimed at supporting cyclone-affected areas.

This act of generosity by the Chief Minister is anticipated to motivate similar donations from DMK MLAs, MPs, as well as notable figures in the film industry and members of the community.

Previously, CM Stalin initiated the dispatch of a consignment containing one lakh kilograms of rice and other relief supplies from the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam.

The relief items were organized by the Health Minister and District Secretary Ma Subramanian.

The Chief Minister, who has requested Rs 2,000 crore in interim assistance from the Union government, stressed that Tamil Nadu has been diligently working to alleviate the impact of natural disasters, despite receiving "limited" financial backing from the Centre.

CM Stalin had previously unveiled a comprehensive relief package for those affected by Cyclone Fengal and the subsequent heavy rainfall and flooding.

According to the package, Rs 5 lakh will be allocated to the families of individuals who lost their lives due to the cyclone and floods, and Rs 2,000 will be distributed to ration card holders whose livelihoods have been disrupted in Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Kallakurichi districts.

Additionally, provisions have been made for farmers whose crops suffered damage of 33 percent or more, along with Rs 10,000 for mud huts that were damaged in the floods.

The state government has also declared plans to hold special camps in affected districts to issue new certificates, voter ID cards, Aadhaar cards, and family cards to individuals who lost these documents in the calamity.

New textbooks and notebooks will be provided to students from affected families.

Furthermore, District Collectors from Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Tiruvannamalai, where the cyclone caused significant destruction, have been directed to prepare detailed reports on the most severely affected areas for the government's further action.
