Mumbai, Sep 1 (NationPress) Actor Darshan Kumaar, who is eagerly anticipating the release of his new film “The Bengal Files”, discussed his second collaboration with the legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty. He revealed that he genuinely couldn’t identify the star on set due to his profound commitment to his character.
Darshan reminisced about his previous experience working alongside Mithun in The Kashmir Files, sharing an insightful story: “In The Kashmir Files, I had the honor of performing intense scenes with him. Most of our interactions included heated exchanges between our characters.
“All I needed to do was respond to his powerful performance — and something extraordinary would unfold on screen. His presence enhances every single frame he occupies.”
Regarding their newest project, “The Bengal Files”, Darshan highlighted Mithun's extreme dedication to authenticity.
“In this film, he portrays a character known as ‘Mad Man’ — and the lengths he has gone to for this role are astonishing. The first time I encountered him on set, I honestly couldn’t recognize him. He was fully absorbed — walking, talking, and even thinking like his character.”
He recalled a particular scene where Mithun was “actually eating biscuits from a real dustbin, amidst street dogs.”
“It was both shocking and deeply motivating for me as an actor.”
Darshan recounted a specific moment that left a significant impression on him.
“His character in the film has had his tongue burned by the enemy, rendering him unable to speak clearly. Initially, prosthetics were used for this effect, but they were ineffective. That’s when Mithun Da chose to paint his tongue black with real color — a choice that posed potential harm.”
Darshan remarked: “When I asked him, ‘Da, isn’t this harmful for your health?’, he just smiled and said, ‘We are making history, and I must honor this character.’”
He concluded: “That moment truly resonated with me. Here is a man who has starred in countless hit films, transformed Indian cinema in numerous ways, yet he approaches every project as if it’s his very first. His humility, dedication, and passion for film are unparalleled.”
Referring to Mithun as an institution in acting, Darshan stated: “I will carry this experience with me as one of the most valuable lessons of my career. I aspire to follow his example — to approach every role with that same intensity and sincerity. Mithun Da is not just a legend — he’s an institution. I hold him in deep respect and love.”
