Daughter of Pranab Mukherjee Reveals Government Approval for Memorial, Expresses Gratitude to PM Modi

New Delhi, Jan 7 (NationPress) Sharmistha Mukherjee, the daughter of the late Pranab Mukherjee, recently shared on the social media platform X that the Central government has officially sanctioned a specific location for the establishment of a samadhi (memorial) dedicated to her father, the former President.
The correspondence from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs indicates that a site has been allocated for the memorial within the grounds of Rajghat.
Sharmistha, who is also a former Congress leader, expressed her heartfelt appreciation towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this decision, stating that she was deeply moved by his thoughtful act.
She took to X to thank PM Modi, saying: "I reached out to PM Modi to convey my heartfelt thanks for his government's initiative to establish a memorial for my baba (father). This gesture is even more meaningful given that we did not request it. I am profoundly touched by this unexpected yet truly generous act by the PM."
She reflected on her father's values while celebrating this development.
"Baba always said that state honors should not be solicited but rather bestowed. I am sincerely grateful that PM Modi has taken this step to commemorate baba’s legacy. While it holds no significance for him now, this means the world to me as his daughter—words cannot capture my gratitude," she shared.
Not long ago, following the Congress party's request for a memorial for the late former PM Manmohan Singh, Sharmistha publicly expressed her disappointment with the party, asserting that it failed to honor her father appropriately.
She noted that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) did not even hold a formal meeting to pass a condolence resolution, despite Mukherjee's decades of dedication to the party.
The former President passed away on August 31, 2020, at the age of 84.
