Delhi AATS arrests serial thief, recovers stolen motorcycle and 5 phones
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of South District Police, Delhi arrested a habitual vehicle and mobile phone thief on 8 July 2025, recovering one stolen Honda motorcycle and five stolen mobile phones linked to multiple theft cases across the capital. The operation, announced on 10 July, helped investigators close six theft cases registered across different police stations in Delhi.
How the Operation Unfolded
Acting on specific intelligence, the AATS laid a strategic intercept at a location in South Delhi after receiving information that a known offender was moving through the area on a stolen motorcycle. A person riding a Honda motorcycle was stopped and questioned; verification confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen. A search of the accused led to the discovery of five mobile phones concealed on his person.
The accused was identified as Kasim Khan, son of Alimuddin, a resident of Loni, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. He was taken into custody immediately.
The Accused's Alleged Modus Operandi
During sustained interrogation, Kasim Khan allegedly confessed to targeting unattended motorcycles parked in public spaces. According to investigators, he used stolen vehicles to move through crowded markets and public areas, where he allegedly snatched mobile phones from unsuspecting victims. He reportedly changed his area of operation frequently to evade detection, and sold stolen phones to local receivers for quick cash.
Police records indicate that the 25-year-old is a habitual offender with ten previous criminal cases to his name, spanning offences under Sections 379 and 411 of the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, and the Gangsters Act. Earlier cases were registered at police stations including Loni Kotwali, Karawal Nagar, Sahibabad, Mandawali, and Tila Mod.
Cases Linked and Stations Involved
Verification of the recovered motorcycle and mobile phones established connections to theft cases registered at R.K. Puram, Mehrauli, Malviya Nagar, Tigri, Fatehpur Beri, and Maidan Garhi police stations — all filed as e-FIRs. All recovered articles have been seized in accordance with legal procedures.
Team Behind the Arrest
The operation was executed by HC Ishwar, HC Narender, Constable Ram Dayal, and Constable Ashok, under the leadership of Inspector Amit Dutt Sharma, In-Charge of AATS South District, and the overall supervision of ACP (Operations) Rituraj.
What Investigators Are Pursuing Next
Investigators are now working to identify the local receivers who purchased the stolen mobile phones, trace additional victims, and determine whether the accused was involved in other vehicle theft and mobile snatching incidents reported across Delhi. Further investigation is underway.
