Delhi AATS arrests auto-thief, recovers 4 stolen two-wheelers across East Delhi
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of East District Police, Delhi arrested an alleged vehicle thief on 6 July 2025 and recovered four stolen two-wheelers, cracking four motor vehicle theft cases registered across East and South-East Delhi, police said on Wednesday. The operation marks the latest step in the East District's sustained drive to dismantle property-crime networks in the capital.
How the Arrest Unfolded
Acting on specific intelligence that an alleged vehicle thief would be passing through the Khichripur area on a stolen motorcycle, the AATS team laid a trap on 6 July. The suspect was intercepted while riding the motorcycle and allegedly attempted to flee, but was overpowered after a brief chase. Verification confirmed the motorcycle had been stolen from the jurisdiction of Police Station Patparganj Industrial Area.
The accused was identified as Sameer, a 24-year-old resident of Khichripur, Delhi. During sustained interrogation, he allegedly confessed to involvement in multiple vehicle thefts and led police to concealed locations where three additional stolen two-wheelers were recovered.
Vehicles Recovered and Cases Linked
The four recovered two-wheelers were traced to thefts from the jurisdictions of Police Station Kalyanpuri, Police Station Patparganj Industrial Area, and Police Station Shaheen Bagh. Each recovery was matched to a registered theft case, enabling the detection of four motor vehicle theft cases across East and South-East Delhi.
The Team Behind the Operation
The operation was conducted under the supervision of ACP Operations Pavan Kumar and Inspector Anand Singh, In-charge of AATS, East District. The field team comprised SI Vikram Singh, SI Sandeep, SI Devender, ASI Rajiv Kumar, ASI Satyavir Singh, ASI Praveen, ASI Muninder Singh, Head Constables Vikrant and Ashwani, and Constable Manish. The AATS had intensified surveillance, preventive checking, and intelligence gathering across vulnerable areas to counter vehicle theft, mobile snatching, and other street crimes.
Legal Action and Further Investigation
Police have registered a case against Sameer under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at Police Station Kalyanpuri. Investigators are now working to identify his associates, trace the network involved in disposing of stolen vehicles, and determine whether he is linked to additional theft cases beyond the four already detected.
