New Delhi, March 12 (NationPress) In a move to foster legislative excellence, Speaker Vijender Gupta announced on Thursday the formation of a selection committee tasked with awarding the esteemed 'Annual Best Legislator Award of the Delhi Assembly', according to an official statement.

Gupta explained that this initiative is designed to acknowledge Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) who exhibit remarkable dedication to public service and the legislative process.

The newly established committee features notable figures from various fields to guarantee a transparent and equitable selection procedure, as mentioned in the official statement.

Chaired by the Speaker, the committee includes Rajendra Aggarwal (former MP, Lok Sabha), P.D.T. Acharya (former Secretary General, Lok Sabha), Reetesh Singh (Principal Secretary of Law, Justice and Legislative Affairs), a distinguished journalist, and Ranjeet Singh (Secretary, Delhi Legislative Assembly).

To ensure that the award accurately reflects true legislative achievement, the committee has set forth stringent evaluation criteria, Gupta noted.

MLAs will be assessed based on their attendance records, the quality of their contributions during House debates, the relevance of public issues they raise, and their overall compliance with parliamentary decorum, he added.

This detailed framework guarantees that the award honors individuals who effectively connect citizen concerns with policy-making.

Gupta emphasized, "The Best Legislator Award is not just a trophy; it represents the importance of this House. By recognizing outstanding performance, we encourage our members to maintain the highest standards of parliamentary conduct and engage in substantial discussions.”

He further stated that the initiative aims to transform the Delhi Legislative Assembly into a 'Model Assembly', setting a standard for democratic governance throughout the country.
