New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) The inaugural session of the eighth Legislative Assembly of Delhi is set to commence on Monday, with the newly elected MLAs taking their oath. This session spans three days. The Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena has appointed BJP's Arvinder Singh Lovely as the pro-tem speaker.

The pro-tem Speaker is a temporary position responsible for overseeing House proceedings until a full-time Speaker is elected.

The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected members is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the election of the Legislative Assembly Speaker at 2:00 p.m.

According to the Assembly bulletin, L-G Saxena will address the Assembly on February 25, after which reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) will be presented.

On February 26, discussions regarding the motion of thanks for the L-G's address will begin at 11:00 a.m. Subsequently, the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly will also be elected. The motion discussion will continue into the third day, February 27.

The BJP has nominated senior MLAs Vijender Gupta and Mohan Singh Bisht for the roles of Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is expected to propose Gupta's candidacy for Speaker, with Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa supporting the motion on February 24, according to the Assembly's business schedule.

Earlier, both Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Vijender Gupta confirmed that the CAG reports will be presented in the Assembly. 'In our first Cabinet meeting, we adopted two resolutions: to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi with a ₹5 lakh top-up and to table 14 CAG reports during the Assembly's first session. We are committed to fulfilling all promises made to the public,' stated CM Rekha Gupta.

The AAP, holding 22 MLAs, has designated Atishi as the leader of the opposition.
