New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) The five-day Budget session of the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party government is scheduled to commence at 11 a.m. on Monday with a kheer ceremony, as per officials familiar with the proceedings.

The initial day of the session is expected to feature the presentation of a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report concerning the Delhi Transport Corporation for 2024, they noted.

However, there is no confirmation regarding whether the economic survey will be introduced in the House on the inaugural day.

Additionally, on Monday, the government has invited representatives from various communities including farmers and traders, whose suggestions are sought for inclusion in the Budget.

According to the agenda, the House will initiate with a Question Hour, followed by a Special Mention (Rule-280) where MLAs can discuss issues pertinent to their constituencies and matters affecting the citizens of Delhi with the Chair's permission.

On Tuesday, the second day of the session, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also oversees the Finance portfolio, will present the BJP government's inaugural Budget, likely titled "Viksit Delhi".

In line with its name, the Delhi Budget 2025-26 is anticipated to emphasize infrastructure development, cleaning of the Yamuna, and addressing air pollution, alongside allocations for health and education, according to informed sources.

The Budget is also expected to incorporate financial provisions for the Rs 2,500 monthly allowance promised by the BJP for women prior to the Assembly elections.

Following the Budget presentation, a general discussion is slated for March 26 (Wednesday) to evaluate financial allocations and policy initiatives. The Assembly will debate and vote on the proposed Budget on March 27 (Thursday), Speaker Vijender Gupta stated.

The Assembly will subsequently examine and vote on the Budget on March 27 (Thursday). The session is designed to continue until March 28, during which various legislative matters will be addressed.

"The Budget Session is a pivotal period in the legislative calendar, during which essential financial and policy issues will be deliberated and resolved. The session is tentatively scheduled from March 24 to March 28, 2025, with possible extensions if necessary," Speaker Gupta added.

Each of the five days will include the Question Hour. On the final day, MLAs will have the opportunity to introduce and discuss their proposals regarding governance and public welfare.

Speaker Gupta emphasized the significance of maintaining decorum to ensure a productive session.

According to BJP leaders, Budget 2025-26 has been formulated based on suggestions received from the citizens of Delhi.

"We received 3,303 suggestions via email and 6,982 messages on WhatsApp. All suggestions have been thoroughly reviewed," CM Rekha Gupta stated.

"We have focused on addressing the needs of the public, including water and electricity, and promoting women empowerment. This budget will also tackle water logging issues, enhance the cleanliness of the Yamuna River, combat air pollution, and invest in education, health, employment, and infrastructure development. It aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Delhi," CM Gupta added.

In addition to the Budget, the Assembly will also discuss a CAG report on DTC titled "Functioning of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC)". Last month, the Delhi Assembly received two other CAG reports concerning health infrastructure and excise policies.

The presentation of 14 such reports, which have been pending since 2017-2018, was a campaign promise made by the BJP ahead of the February 8 Assembly elections.

The BJP has consistently criticized the former AAP government for failing to present these reports, alleging that the party was attempting to conceal irregularities committed during its tenure in various departments of the Delhi government.

The last Delhi Budget was revealed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in March of the previous year, with an allocation of Rs 76,000 crore. The then Finance Minister Atishi had introduced the Delhi budget 2024 under the theme "Ram Rajya".
