New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is poised to present the inaugural budget of the BJP-led government in the Delhi Assembly, signifying a historic occasion after more than 26 years.

The much-anticipated budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 is likely to embody the BJP’s election manifesto and the commitments made to the residents of Delhi during the recent elections.

The five-day budget session, which kicked off on March 24, commenced with a traditional kheer ceremony at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Chief Minister Gupta remarked, "Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP is presenting the Delhi Budget after 27 years. Much like Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, we are returning after 27 years."

On the inaugural day of the session, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also introduced a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report in the House, which underscores the troubling financial status of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

The CAG report, which spans the period up to 2024, disclosed that DTC’s losses have surged by Rs 35,000 crore over the last six years.

The report indicated that DTC’s losses escalated from Rs 25,300 crore in 2015-16 to an astonishing Rs 60,750 crore in 2021-22. This alarming increase in losses has attracted significant criticism from the opposition, with members staging a walkout, insisting that all 14 CAG reports be presented collectively in the House.

The ongoing discussions regarding the CAG reports will proceed in the upcoming days, illuminating the financial condition of public sector entities in the city.

This budget session marks the second for the newly-established BJP government, following the first session held between February 24 and March 3 earlier this year.
