New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely was sworn in as the pro-tem Speaker of the Delhi Assembly on Monday, set to preside over the initial session of the legislature.

The oath was administered by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena at Raj Niwas.

This marks the fourth term for Arvinder Singh, who will fulfill the responsibilities of the Speaker's office until a new Speaker is appointed.

A notification released in the Delhi Gazette on Saturday included an order from the L-G stating, "I hereby appoint Arvinder Singh Lovely, a member of the newly elected Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, to perform the duties of the Office of the Speaker from the commencement of the said meeting and until the new Speaker is elected."

The L-G's order further noted, "I also hereby appoint Arvinder Singh Lovely to be the individual before whom Members of the newly elected Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi shall make and subscribe oath or affirmation in accordance with the provisions of section 12 of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991."

The CAG reports are anticipated to be presented in the House on February 25.

Vijender Gupta, a three-time legislator and councillor designated by the BJP as the next Speaker, mentioned that the proposal for a three-day legislative session—February 24, 25, and 27—was sanctioned by the Delhi Cabinet in its inaugural meeting on Thursday.

He noted that since the CAG reports, which include findings regarding lapses in the now-retracted excise policy, have already been received in the office of the Speaker of the outgoing Assembly, these will be prioritized in the new House.

The CAG reports are expected to reveal alleged financial mismanagement by the previous AAP governments led by Arvind Kejriwal.

Details from several CAG reports that have surfaced in public suggest a revenue loss exceeding Rs 2,026 crore due to discrepancies in the Delhi government's excise policy.
