New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed deep regret over the tragic loss of 11 lives in a house collapse in east Delhi, while directing his criticism towards AAP MLAs and municipal councillors for endorsing illegal construction to secure votes.

He claimed that over the past decade, Aam Aadmi Party legislators and councillors representing these Muslim-majority areas have permitted their political allies to build unauthorized fourth, fifth, and sixth floors for rental income, all in the interest of boosting their electoral support.

The Delhi BJP President urged the Municipal Commissioner to promptly conduct a survey of buildings exceeding four floors and those deemed structurally unsafe in regions like Mustafabad, Karawal Nagar, Seelampur, Okhla, Matia Mahal, Ballimaran, and Sadar Bazar, insisting on firm action against violators.

He pointed out that the issue of unlawful construction is particularly acute in minority-dominated neighborhoods.

He warned that there are numerous potential hazards in these Muslim-majority localities, advocating for the evacuation, sealing, and demolition of illegal fifth and sixth floors to avert similar disasters in the future.

Sachdeva's claims regarding widespread unauthorized construction in AAP constituencies surfaced on the same day that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced an investigation into the building collapse in the Dayalpur area of Mustafabad.

She also visited the site of the tragedy and instructed the MCD Commissioner to evacuate endangered buildings nearby.

The Chief Minister asserted that no culpable officials would evade accountability.

The structure in Mustafabad collapsed early on Saturday morning, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals, including the owner, and trapping several others beneath the rubble, according to officials.

The incident transpired around 3 a.m., following severe overnight rainfall and thunderstorms that affected various parts of the city. The owner, Tehsin, aged sixty, was also among the deceased, while 11 others were rescued.

Shortly after the incident, Sandeep Lamba, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East District), reported in the morning, "Four of the 14 rescued individuals succumbed to their injuries. The building had four floors. Rescue operations are ongoing, and eight to ten people remain feared trapped."

DDMA, NDRF, DFS, and other organizations were actively involved in relief and rescue efforts.
