Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Goa, Dec 31 (NationPress) As the countdown to the fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League begins, the Delhi Capitals have kicked off their training with an intensive pre-season camp in Goa.
Among the first to arrive were seasoned all-rounder Marizanne Kapp and wicketkeeper-batter Lizelle Lee, who played a pivotal role in Hobart's recent WBBL triumph. They were soon joined by Taniyaa Bhatia, Lucy Hamilton, and a host of Indian players including Niki Prasad, Minnu Mani, Mamatha Madiwala, Deeya Yadav, and Nandni Sharma.
The squad is under the keen guidance of head coach Jonathan Batty, with more Indian national team members anticipated to arrive following the conclusion of the Sri Lanka series on Tuesday.
Coach Batty shared insights on the pre-season camp, stating, "It’s been fantastic to assemble the squad and begin strategizing for the season. With several new additions to the team, it’s thrilling to observe how they will integrate with our established philosophy. The weather in Goa is ideal for our training. We expect the remaining players shortly, and we'll enhance our training efforts with the entire squad before heading to Mumbai to commence our season and tackle it match by match toward our goals."
Franchise CEO Sunil Gupta remarked, "From the franchise's standpoint, players cherish returning to Delhi Capitals; it feels like family. The pre-season camp is where both enjoyment and serious work commence. It’s a valuable chance for players to connect, particularly with new members in the lineup, and Goa offers one of the finest backdrops for setting the stage. Our consistent performances over previous seasons have led us to three successive finals, and our objective is to maintain that momentum this year. We extend a warm welcome to our new team members and eagerly await the full squad for our preparations to accelerate."
The DC, having reached the finals thrice, will kick off their WPL 2026 season against two-time champions Mumbai Indians on January 10 in Navi Mumbai.
