Navi Mumbai, Jan 9 (NationPress) The head coach of Delhi Capitals (DC), Jonathan Batty, expressed that his team is eager and enthusiastic as they prepare to kick off their 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season against the reigning champions, Mumbai Indians, at the DY Patil Stadium this Saturday.
DC will be under the leadership of new captain Jemimah Rodrigues and has recently completed an extensive pre-season training camp in Goa. Batty remarked, “It’s wonderful to see many familiar faces back in the squad from previous years, and it’s equally exciting to welcome new talent that brings a fresh perspective to the team.
“Our preparation has been exceptional. The camp in Goa facilitated a blend of team-building exercises alongside high-quality training sessions. We’ve witnessed some impressive cricket, and as we approach the tournament, the overall atmosphere is very positive, and we’re ready to compete,” Batty noted in a tournament announcement.
Despite reaching the finals in all three previous WPL seasons, DC is yet to secure the title and aims to improve on their past performances in 2026. “I believe we have a well-rounded team. I’m particularly excited about building on the experience and quality we’ve retained, enhanced by some excellent new signings. We’re determined to achieve more than we have in previous years,” Batty added.
Highlighting the importance of team culture, Batty said: “To me, team culture is about surrounding ourselves with good individuals, from players and support staff to logistics and marketing teams. There are many talented people within the Delhi Capitals organization, and it’s essential to find the right balance between working hard, enjoying ourselves, and fostering camaraderie.”
