Pune, Feb 9 (NationPress) As the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 draws near, the Delhi Capitals are in full preparation mode, aiming to surpass their previous seasons as runners-up. Currently in Pune for their pre-season camp, star player Jemimah Rodrigues expressed her confidence while discussing her preparations for the upcoming season.

“Our team has shown great consistency over the past two seasons. We’ve reached the final, and I firmly believe we’ll overcome that hurdle to claim the trophy. We’re committed to the right strategies, even if some outcomes are beyond our control. The entire DC team is dedicated to hard work and striving for victory,” she stated.

Rodrigues elaborated, “My training is straightforward. I simulate match scenarios during practice, whether it involves aggressive batting or stabilizing the innings. Given that it’s T20, I focus on power-hitting, utilizing heavy balls to enhance my bat swing speed and power.”

The 24-year-old has accumulated 381 runs in 18 WPL matches, with a strike rate of 143.82. She also discussed the WPL's influence on women's cricket in India.

“Competing with the best in the WPL elevates every player’s performance, whether they are newcomers or seasoned athletes. Increased competition and pressure situations improve our decision-making on the field. The overall standard of domestic cricket has also risen,” Rodrigues emphasized.

She added, “Another significant development is the growing fan base. Thanks to the WPL and its teams, the popularity of women’s cricket in India has surged.”

Reflecting on her relationship with Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning, Rodrigues said, “I recall facing Australia in the World Cup semifinals before the WPL, and I noticed her competitive spirit. She is always eager to take charge and maintain a positive attitude. Initially, I wondered if she would be approachable, but once we spoke after the WPL commenced, I discovered she is genuinely friendly and down-to-earth. Despite her fierce on-field demeanor, her leadership is rooted in positivity.”

The Delhi Capitals will kick off their WPL 2025 journey against the Mumbai Indians on February 15 at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
