New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) The Delhi Capitals, who have reached the finals three times, have officially appointed Jemimah Rodrigues, the ICC Women's ODI World Cup champion, as their captain for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026.

Jemimah, a vital part of the Capitals since the league's inception and their first auction pick, recently made headlines with her outstanding performance in India's historic ICC Women’s World Cup victory. Her brilliant, unbeaten score of 127 was instrumental in leading India to a record-setting chase of 339 runs against Australia in the semifinal, showcasing her exceptional talent on a global platform.

In her time with the Delhi Capitals, Rodrigues has played 27 matches in the WPL, accumulating 507 runs with an impressive strike rate of 139.67. She has participated in all three finals of the league's editions, proving her mettle. Renowned for her enthusiasm and high energy, she brings a vibrant presence that has endeared her to both Delhi Capitals fans and supporters of the Indian women's cricket team.

Reflecting on her new captaincy role, Rodrigues stated, “Being named captain of the Delhi Capitals is an incredible honor. I am truly thankful to the owners and support staff for believing in me to lead this team. This year has been a dream come true for my family and me, winning the World Cup and being given this amazing opportunity with a franchise I hold dear since the WPL's first season.

Rodrigues has represented India in 113 T20Is, amassing 2,444 runs, including 14 half-centuries, at an average of 30.93. In ODIs, she has played 59 matches, scoring 1,749 runs with three centuries and eight fifties.

The Delhi Capitals will kick off their WPL 2026 campaign against the Mumbai Indians on Saturday, January 10, in Navi Mumbai.
