Vadodara, Feb 1 (NationPress) Laura Wolvaardt emerged as the top scorer with 47 runs while Jemimah Rodrigues contributed a crucial 34 not out, propelling the Delhi Capitals to a five-wicket victory against the UP Warriorz to clinch a playoff spot in the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi on Sunday.

The Capitals will now face the Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator, while the UP Warriorz and the defending champions, Mumbai Indians, exit the tournament. The chase of 123 runs was not without its challenges, as Delhi found themselves in a precarious position needing 22 runs from the last two overs with wickets falling.

Jemimah, however, remained composed, guiding her team to victory with an impressive 34 off 18 balls. Meanwhile, Laura provided stability to the innings with a performance that included seven boundaries. The UP Warriorz struggled to post a competitive total, managing only 122/8, hindered by inadequate runs and poor fielding. Despite some resistance, they failed to set a challenging target for Delhi.

The chase got off to a rocky start for DC as Lizelle Lee was caught at mid-off after misplaying a slower delivery from Deandra Dottin. Laura quickly found her footing, striking confidently with powerful drives and pulls. She received two lifelines when Sophie Ecclestone and Asha Sobhana dropped catches, and she capitalized on those chances.

Shafali Verma also began to find her rhythm after successfully overturning an lbw decision, contributing to the score with cuts and sweeps. By the ninth over, the partnership was flourishing, highlighted by Laura's exquisite boundaries off Kranti Gaud.

The second-wicket partnership of 73 runs came to an end when Deepti Sharma caught Laura with a lofted drive. Shafali, after a slow start, was dismissed for 29, leaving DC in a tight spot as Marizanne Kapp and Chinelle Henry fell quickly, leaving the score at 100/5.

Despite the pressure, Jemimah remained unfazed, hitting a four off Deepti to steady the ship, followed by a brilliant shot over extra cover. With Niki Prasad's support, Jemimah hit consecutive boundaries off Deepti in the 19th over to level the scores, ultimately sealing the win with a cover-driven four that sent DC to the playoffs.
