Will the unchanged DC bowl first against UPW?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Vadodara, Feb 1 (NationPress) The Delhi Capitals, unchanged from their last match, have won the toss and chosen to bowl first against the UP Warriorz in a crucial WPL 2026 encounter at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi on Sunday.
For DC, the stakes are clear - a victory will bring them to 8 points, securing the last playoff spot, while the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Giants have already made it through. However, a loss could see them eliminated due to the superior net run rate of the defending champions, Mumbai Indians.
After winning the toss, DC skipper Jemimah Rodrigues believed the pitch might offer better conditions in the second half. “Our team is highly motivated. As captain, I find it easy to lead this group because they make me feel at home. The energy and intensity we're putting into our cricket will remain constant, and that's non-negotiable,” she commented.
She also acknowledged that her leadership role has been a significant growth opportunity during WPL 2026. “In the past few weeks, I feel I've progressed more than I have in years,” Jemimah shared.
“The credit belongs to my team, coach JB (Jonathan Batty), our support staff, and the players who have alleviated a lot of my burdens. Each game has been a vital learning experience that will greatly benefit my cricketing journey,” she added.
UPW captain Meg Lanning revealed they have made three changes to their lineup – Shipra Giri, Deandra Dottin, and Charli Knott replace Shweta Sehrawat, Amy Jones, and Chloe Tryon.
“We started well the other night but couldn't finish strong. There are positives to build on, and our aim is to put together a full 20 overs tonight. Everyone is competitive, and while we want to secure a win, we're also looking to give some players opportunities to inject fresh energy into the team,” she stated.
