Delhi L-G Condemns Congress Protest at AI Summit as Malicious and Undignified
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, V.K. Saxena, addressed a Congress delegation on Tuesday, expressing that the protest staged at the AI Summit last week was not only undignified but also malicious and poorly thought out, risking the nation's reputation on global platforms.
During the meeting, which included Congress leaders Ajay Maken, MP and AICC Treasurer, along with Devendra Yadav, President of DPCC, the L-G's remarks were documented by a Lok Niwas official.
This discussion occurred as the Delhi Police arrested Uday Bhanu Chib, the national president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), on Tuesday related to the shirtless protest held at Bharat Mandapan during the AI Impact Summit on February 20.
The Congress representatives requested a meeting with the L-G to deliver a memorandum concerning the recent police actions against IYC volunteers following their behavior at the AI Summit.
Upon receiving the memorandum, the L-G firmly stated that, irrespective of the legal aspects of the situation, the actions of the Youth Congress volunteers were clearly meant to undermine the nation during a significant international event. This was highlighted in a statement released by Lok Niwas.
Emphasizing that the AI Summit was an event representing India as a whole and not any specific individual or political party, the L-G condemned the protestors' actions in the strongest terms.
Prior to this, the Delhi Congress chief accused the Delhi Police of harassing the IYC protesters involved in the shirtless demonstration.
Yadav remarked that the Delhi police appeared to be unaware of the Mandapam incident and were detaining Congress workers at their homes who had no involvement in the case.
He further stated that the police's actions were entirely illegal and unacceptable, asserting that it was improper for them to keep Congress workers at the Tilak Marg police station under the guise of questioning them in a harassing manner.
