New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) In a significant development, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has taken charge of the case involving a shirtless protest during the AI Impact Summit. On Tuesday, they detained Uday Bhanu Chib, the National President of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), along with seven accomplices.

A Delhi court has ordered Chib to be held in police custody for four days after he was brought before the Patiala House Court following his arrest earlier that day. The police requested a seven-day custodial interrogation, asserting that Chib is the primary conspirator behind the protest.

The defense contested the request for extended custody, while the prosecution argued that such interrogation is crucial to reveal the broader conspiracy. After considering both arguments, the court granted four days of police custody for further examination.

The investigation has now been transferred to the Crime Branch.

Chib faces allegations of orchestrating an unlawful assembly on February 20 at Bharat Mandapam during the AI Impact Summit and Expo 2026, where purportedly anti-national slogans were shouted, aiming to instigate a riot-like atmosphere.

Additionally, the police claimed that Chib and his co-accused, including Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Narasimha Yadav, Ajay Kumar Yadav, and others, obstructed and attacked police officers who were fulfilling their duties.

The arrest memo indicated that Chib allegedly did not cooperate during questioning and failed to reveal information about the absconding co-accused and the origin of the T-shirts used in the protest.

Chib was detained after nearly 15 hours of questioning at the Tilak Marg police station regarding the shirtless protest that occurred on the last day of the India AI Impact Summit.

This protest has sparked a political controversy, with the BJP criticizing it as an attempt to undermine India's international reputation, while the Congress party defended it as a peaceful expression reflecting the concerns of the youth.

Moreover, even allies of Congress within the opposition INDIA bloc have voiced their disapproval of the youth wing's actions during the protest.
