New Delhi, Nov 2 (NationPress) - A 57-year-old woman, reportedly engaged in ongoing bootlegging activities, was apprehended by the Delhi Police after they uncovered more than 1,300 litres of illicit liquor during an operation in the Jyoti Nagar area of North-East Delhi, as confirmed by an official on Sunday.
Authorities stated that the incident transpired during evening patrols when Constable Rajdeep and Woman Constable Bhawna observed the woman sitting outside her residence with a covered bucket. Sensing something was amiss, the officers inspected the bucket and found numerous liquor quarters inside.
In light of this discovery, police executed a raid at her property, recovering a staggering 7,309 quarters — equivalent to 1,315.62 litres — of illegal liquor labeled “For sale in Haryana only.” The suspect was identified as Ms 'ABC', a local resident.
“As a result, a case has been registered under Section 33 of the Delhi Excise Act at Police Station Jyoti Nagar, and an investigation is underway,” stated the Delhi Police in a press release.
Initial inquiries have indicated that the woman has been involved in eight similar cases previously, suggesting her persistent engagement in the illegal liquor trade.
Investigations continue to determine the origin of the liquor and whether additional individuals are part of the operation, according to police sources.
Earlier this week, in a significant operation against illicit liquor, Delhi Police’s Outer North district arrested four individuals and confiscated a substantial consignment of illegal liquor following a confidential tip-off.
The Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) intervened near the UER-II road heading towards Sector-34, Rohini, while the suspects were transporting the goods.
Authorities seized 149 cartons containing 7,450 liquor quarters, along with three vehicles — a Mahindra Bolero pickup, a Hyundai Aura, and a scooter — purportedly used in the smuggling endeavor.
The suspects have been identified as Vishal (30), Vinod (48), Sunil (27), and Mausam (26). Officials revealed that Vishal has a prior record under the Excise Act.
