Vadodara, March 1 (NationPress) - The Vadodara Rural Police in Gujarat successfully dismantled an illegal liquor smuggling operation in Desar taluka, confiscating foreign liquor valued at Rs 15 lakh that was concealed beneath a load of vegetables in a tempo.
The police intercepted the vehicle close to Pandu village based on a tip-off, unearthing a substantial shipment of liquor intended for the infamous bootlegger Dinesh Parmar from Nava Sihora. Authorities have ramped up their efforts to locate the fugitive bootlegger.
The operation was led by the Desar Police Inspector, who was patrolling when they received intel about a tempo allegedly transporting illegal liquor disguised as vegetable cargo. The vehicle was traveling from Pandu to Nava Sihora when the police established a roadblock near a local dargah.
Upon stopping the tempo and questioning the driver and his accomplice, the officers found their explanations unsatisfactory regarding their shipment. A thorough inspection revealed sacks of bottle gourd stacked inside the vehicle. However, further investigation revealed cartons filled with a considerable quantity of foreign liquor and beer.
The haul included 217 cartons containing a total of 2,007 bottles of beer and Indian-made foreign liquor, estimated to be worth around Rs 7 lakh. In addition, the police seized two mobile phones valued at Rs 30,000 and the tempo itself, which was worth Rs 8 lakh, bringing the total worth of confiscated goods to Rs 15.30 lakh.
The arrested individuals are identified as Sanjay Jasvantbhai Machhi from Nava Sihora and Mitesh Nahariyabhai Rathwa from Chhota Udepur.
During questioning, the pair confessed that the shipment was meant for Dinesh Ratanbhai Parmar, a notorious bootlegger known for his long-standing involvement in the illegal liquor trade.
The police have filed a case under the Prohibition Act and are intensifying their efforts to locate and apprehend both Dinesh Parmar and his accomplice Nareshbhai Fulshingbhai Rathwa.
