The suspect, known as Anil, also referred to as Anil Rajput, Shami, or Lambu (29), was located in Sheetla Colony, Gurugram, Haryana, after evading capture for almost three years.

According to the Crime Branch, Anil was declared a proclaimed offender in FIR No. 637/2022, which was filed at the Alipur police station under Sections 302, 174A, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A court in Rohini issued the proclamation on May 10, 2023.

The arrest followed precise intelligence received on March 24 regarding Anil's whereabouts in Gurugram. A team from the WR-II unit of the Crime Branch, under the leadership of Inspector Satish Malik and the supervision of ACP Rajpal Dabas, executed a raid near a farmhouse in Sheetla Colony.

Utilizing both technical surveillance and field intelligence, the team effectively tracked down and apprehended the accused. His arrest was made under the applicable provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), according to officials.

During questioning, Anil reportedly admitted to his role in the murder of a man named Nazir in September 2022. The incident unfolded on the night of September 23-24, when Anil, along with his accomplices Ranjit, Dinesh, and Ramu, allegedly attacked Nazir after consuming alcohol.

Nazir, who was allegedly involved in the theft of vehicle parts, succumbed to the injuries inflicted during the assault. The accused subsequently disposed of his body near Nale Wala Road in Alipur using a tempo, according to police reports.

Officials noted that two of Anil's accomplices, Ranjit and Ramu, had been arrested earlier in connection with the case, while Anil and another accomplice, Dinesh, had been on the run since the crime.

Anil, originally from Alipur, is illiterate and had worked as a helper before transitioning to a driver around 2014-15. In 2022, he was employed as a driver for Ranjit, who owned multiple commercial vehicles.

Post-crime, Anil fled and relocated to Gurugram with his family to avoid being captured, police disclosed.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
