New Delhi, May 4 (NationPress) Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized on Sunday that the distress of farmers must never be overlooked, highlighting that Union Minister of Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan is well aware of their challenges. These remarks from the Vice President are particularly noteworthy as he had previously questioned the lack of communication with protesting farmers and inquired about the commitments made to them last December.
During a session at Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia Krishi Vishwavidyalaya in Gwalior, Vice President Dhankhar stated, "The essence of democracy is communication and dialogue, referred to as 'Anantvaad' in Vedic philosophy. However, when it comes to farmers, any lack of dialogue or introduction of diplomacy is unacceptable. I am pleased that your former Chief Minister and current Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is effectively addressing this issue and has begun an important conversation with farmers."
Continuing, he shared his personal commitment to voicing farmers' struggles: "I recognize that at times we may feel compelled to withhold our thoughts. Certain obstacles remain unspoken due to various factors, but when it concerns farmers, I do not adhere to such restraint. It is my duty to highlight their suffering and advocate for their needs."
He recalled a previous statement made at an event organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in Mumbai, stating, "We must embrace the farmer. Ignoring their plight is unacceptable. It is not right that farmers must compel us to recognize their challenges; we should be proactive in understanding their pain."
Vice President Dhankhar also reiterated the necessity for compassion towards farmers: "We must be incredibly sensitive to farmers' welfare... and I emphasized the importance of engaging in dialogue with them."
Commending Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the government's initiative to communicate with farmers, he expressed optimism: "I am confident that discussions will take place, allowing farmers to appreciate the beneficial policies introduced by the Central government."
