Dharwad (Karnataka), Jan 16 (NationPress) In an era of unprecedented growth, we cannot neglect the issues faced by farmers, stated Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the launch of the Amrut Mahotsav and Alumni Meet at the College of Agriculture, University of Agricultural Sciences in Dharwad, VP Dhankhar emphasized, “The distress of farmers demands urgent national attention. Farmers require economic security. We cannot afford to ignore their concerns in a nation that is currently experiencing an unstoppable rise.”
“Timeliness is crucial for resolving all issues, but it is especially vital for addressing the challenges that farmers encounter. The government is actively working on this, and we hope everyone collaborates positively to find effective solutions,” he remarked.
VP Dhankhar further pointed out the significant role of the agricultural sector in the economy, stating, “When farmers are financially stable, the economy thrives, fueled by their spending power. Increased farmer expenditure leads to an overall economic boost, creating further positive effects.”
He underscored the necessity of addressing primary challenges faced by farmers, such as adverse weather and fluctuating market conditions, saying, “It is time to assess and alleviate the pressures on the agricultural sector. Although the government is taking steps, farmers remain vulnerable to unpredictable weather and market scenarios.”
Expressing support for the establishment of the Turmeric Board in Telangana, he remarked, “The creation of this Board is a significant step towards benefiting turmeric farmers”.
“Such proactive measures will foster export markets, benefiting farmers and enhancing their product value. The aim is to double turmeric production within five years,” he added.
VP Dhankhar urged the government to create additional boards to ensure value addition and specialized treatment for all agricultural products, stating, “I strongly advocate for direct transfer of all farm sector subsidies. Any form of subsidy, whether for fertilizers or otherwise, must reach the farmer directly.”
