New Delhi, Feb 9 (NationPress) Emphasizing the vital role of farmers in national development, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday encouraged the youth to pursue farming as a career, assuring them of promising economic outcomes through the use of modern technologies, cooperatives, and favorable government policies.
At the Akhil Mewar Region Jat Mahasabha held in Chittorgarh, the Vice President stated, "Regardless of the challenges faced, the significance of farmers in India’s developmental journey cannot be diminished. The current governance system respects farmers immensely."
He added, "An improvement in farmers' economic conditions directly enhances the nation’s status. Farmers are the backbone of our society, and they should not rely on others for assistance, as they wield both political influence and economic strength through their labor."
Urging farmers to utilize the resources offered by Agricultural Science Centres, he remarked, "With over 730 Agricultural Science Centres available, farmers should not hesitate to approach them and inquire about the services they provide. Familiarize yourself with innovative technologies and government initiatives. There is a wealth of opportunities at your disposal that you might not be aware of, including the benefits of cooperatives."
"By visiting even twice a month, the staff there will become motivated, realizing the importance of engaging with the food provider. When farmers demand accountability, it inevitably leads to improvements in quality," he noted.
The Vice President further highlighted the need for farmers to engage in the trade and value addition of their agricultural products.
"Why aren’t farmers enhancing the value of their products? Numerous businesses thrive on agricultural outputs, such as flour mills and oil mills," he said.
"Collaboration is essential, and farmers should also concentrate on livestock production. I take immense pleasure in the growth of dairies. The sector should expand beyond just milk to include products like buttermilk, yogurt, paneer, ice cream, and rasgullas—farmers should play a role in these areas as well," he concluded.
