Los Angeles, Sep 26 (NationPress) Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio recognizes the growing significance of streaming services, yet believes that the box-office will always hold a crucial role in the cinematic landscape.
“There’s an overwhelming amount of content being produced today, which is certainly positive. However, I believe the box office remains vital as it signifies that audiences are attending theaters and enjoying that shared experience,” he stated during an interview with Variety.
DiCaprio features alongside renowned actors such as Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti in the upcoming action thriller One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
He mentioned that his new film is “carefully designed and tailored” for moviegoers, as reported by femalefirst.co.uk.
“Paul filmed this project using Vista Vision—cameras that haven’t been frequently employed since the early 1960s. He aims to provide viewers with an immersive experience and create an action film that is surprising, tangible, and realistic, distinctly different from what we have been inundated with. In this sense, the box office is very significant,” he added.
DiCaprio is actively promoting the idea that audiences should view One Battle After Another in theaters rather than at home.
He expressed, “I sincerely hope that people will go to the theater and experience it as it was meant to be enjoyed.”
Despite being a major name in Hollywood, DiCaprio recently shared that he was advised early in his career that his name was “too ethnic” for the industry.
His first agent recommended that he change his name to succeed in the film sector.
During a discussion on the New Heights podcast, DiCaprio recalled, “I asked, ‘What do you mean, it’s Leonardo DiCaprio?’ They responded, ‘No, too ethnic. They’re never going to hire you.’”
His former agent even suggested a new name for him.
He recounted, “They said, ‘Your new name is Lenny Williams.’ I replied, ‘What is Lenny?’ … ‘We used your middle name (Wilhelm) and made it your last name. Now you’re Lenny.’”
