Patna, June 9 (NationPress) In response to the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Tejashwi Yadav's call for a one-day special session of the Bihar Assembly aimed at advocating for 65 percent reservation for backward and marginalized communities, Bihar BJP President, Dilip Jaiswal, delivered a strong rebuttal, accusing both the Congress and RJD of hypocrisy on this matter.
During a media interaction in Patna, Jaiswal stated, “The Congress governed India for 65 years, and Lalu Prasad Yadav led Bihar for 15 years — why did they not implement increased reservation for Backward Classes during their tenure? The Congress even neglected the Kaka Kalelkar Commission report for 30 years. Can they clarify that?”
Jaiswal further supported the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, asserting, “It is the double-engine government that has committed to providing 65 percent reservation to Dalits, Mahadalits, Backward Classes, and Extremely Backward Classes in Bihar. This issue is presently under judicial consideration, but the RJD is attempting to politicize it.”
Emphasizing the initiatives taken by the Centre, the BJP leader remarked, “Lalu Prasad Yadav never granted constitutional status to the Backward Class Commission. It was the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government that achieved that. The Modi administration also awarded Bharat Ratna to Karpoori Thakur, fulfilling a long-standing demand for social justice.”
Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav expressed on social media platform X, urging the Bihar government to organize a one-day special session of the Assembly to pass a Bill that would facilitate 65 percent reservation and ensure its incorporation into the 9th Schedule of the Constitution, shielding it from judicial review.
The RJD leader directly criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Upendra Kushwaha, urging them to advocate before the Modi government for the inclusion of 65 percent reservation in the 9th Schedule.
This exchange of words illustrates the escalating political tensions as the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approach, with the issue of reservation for marginalized groups becoming a significant electoral topic.
