Mumbai, Sep 5 (NationPress) — Renowned Bollywood actress and the beloved television Sita, Dipika Chikhlia, recently reminisced about her iconic role by sharing a behind-the-scenes video from the legendary mythological series Ramayan, directed by Ramanand Sagar.
In her post, Dipika invited her followers to see if they could identify anyone featured in the nostalgic video. For those who may not know, Ramayan is celebrated as one of the most remarkable television shows ever produced. Following its initial broadcast, the cast garnered immense fanfare and acclaim. The series featured Arun Govil as Lord Ram, Sunil Lahri as Lakshman, Arvind Trivedi as Ravan, Dara Singh as Hanuman, and Dipika Chikhlia as Sita.
The show premiered in 1987, aired for a year, and concluded in 1988 on Doordarshan. Every Sunday, it captivated audiences, drawing families to their television sets, a rarity in the 1980s. Notably, during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Ramayan was re-aired on Doordarshan, running for more than two months.
After Ramayan, Dipika Chikhlia continued her career in Hindi and regional films, including Rupaye Dus Karod and Ghar Ka Chiraag. She also ventured into politics, serving as a Member of Parliament from Vadodara in 1991. More recently, she appeared in the film Bala, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Yami Gautam, and Bhumi Pednekar. Sadly, on August 31, Prem Sagar, the son of Ramanand Sagar and a veteran producer, cinematographer, and director, passed away at his Mumbai home at the age of 81.
His son Shiv Sagar expressed his sorrow, stating, “An entire era has gone.” He shared that his father had been diagnosed with colon cancer a month earlier and had undergone treatment. Shiv revealed that his father returned home on Saturday and passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, coinciding with the fifth day of the Ganesh festival and Radha Ashtami, adding a poignant significance to the date.
