Imphal, March 23 (NationPress) Children and students who have been residing in relief camps since the onset of ethnic violence in Manipur in May 2023, enjoyed a delightful day at the state's inaugural Water Amusement Park located in the Imphal East district on Sunday.
Organized by several government entities, including the Tourism Department, more than two hundred children and school students took a break from their time in the Churachandpur district relief camps, where they are currently sheltered with their families after being displaced due to the unrest.
Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh officially opened the state's first water amusement park at Thenguchingjin in the Imphal East district in March of the previous year.
Singh, who stepped down from the Chief Ministerial role on February 9, just four days before President's Rule was established in Manipur, shared on his X account, “I’m pleased to arrange a visit to the Water Amusement Park at Thenguchingjin for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) students who have been uprooted from Churachandpur district.”
“We have arranged free passes for the students to the park as promised to the representatives of the Meitei Society, Churachandpur during their visit a day before the 'Yaoshang festival' at my home. I express my gratitude to the officials of the Department of Tourism for organizing this outing, and the Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited for supplying refreshments and necessary support to the students. I also commend the workers and BJP Karyakartas for making this visit successful,” said the former Chief Minister.
Upon inaugurating the first Water Amusement Park on March 13 of the previous year, the former Chief Minister stated that residents of the state would no longer need to travel outside for amusement parks and spend money elsewhere.
He mentioned plans to further enhance the park by adding a trekking trail for children and a toy train within the park.
The Manipur government has initiated plans to develop nine additional amusement parks in Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Noney, Senapati, and Keirao, with each park costing approximately Rs 4.5 crore.
