Chennai, March 27 (NationPress) The DMK is poised to unveil its candidate list today, marking a significant milestone in its strategy for the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections slated for April 23.
This announcement is anticipated to follow the finalization of seat distributions within the DMK-led coalition by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
As the nomination phase is set to commence on March 30 and vote counting is planned for May 4, political momentum has surged throughout Tamil Nadu. Major parties, including the DMK, AIADMK, NDA, and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), have ramped up their campaigns, concentrating on coalition negotiations, seat-sharing deals, and voter engagement.
Most seat-sharing talks within the DMK-led alliance appear to be nearing completion.
The DMK is expected to contest 164 constituencies, while its allies will compete for the remaining seats. The Congress is projected to run in 28 seats, followed by the DMDK with 10 seats, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) with 8 seats, and both the CPI and CPI(M) with 5 seats each.
The MDMK has been assigned 4 seats. Additional coalition members include the Indian Union Muslim League (2 seats), Humanist People’s Party (2), Kongunadu People’s National Party (2), Humanist Democratic Party (1), Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) (1), Mukkulathor Pulipadai (1), and Tamil Desiya Katchi (1).
According to sources, final discussions are currently underway, and Chief Minister Stalin is likely to officially disclose both the constituency assignments for allies and the DMK's candidate list later today.
In addition to the candidate list, the DMK is preparing to launch its election manifesto, crafted by a committee led by MP Kanimozhi. This manifesto is expected to outline the party's principal commitments and policy priorities as the elections draw near.
After these announcements, CM Stalin is set to kick off the DMK's statewide campaign from Thiruvarur on April 2. He plans to conduct a series of public meetings across the state, rallying support for DMK candidates and its coalition partners as the electoral campaign reaches a crucial phase.
