Chennai, Dec 31 (NationPress) The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Workers' Rights Retrieval Kazhagam has vehemently denounced the 'brutal attack' on a migrant worker hailing from Odisha in Tiruttani, Tamil Nadu. The party has placed the blame squarely on the DMK government, attributing the incident to the escalating issues of drugs and lawlessness in the state.
In a statement, AIADMK's founder and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam expressed his shock over the incident, where a group of teenage boys reportedly assaulted a man using sickles, an act that has deeply disturbed the public.
Panneerselvam remarked that the attack has revealed the extensive infiltration of drug abuse into society, especially among the younger generation.
“The ability of four minors to commit such a dreadful act under the influence of narcotics underscores how Tamil Nadu has increasingly become a sanctuary for drug-related activities,” he asserted.
He criticized the DMK government for its inability to control the drug epidemic and cautioned that this situation presents a grave danger to public safety and social stability.
Labeling the incident as “deeply disturbing,” he called on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to address the issue with the seriousness it deserves and to take immediate corrective actions.
“The government must prioritize the protection of youth from drug dependency and enforce stringent measures against those involved in drug trafficking,” he continued, emphasizing the need for awareness initiatives and strict law enforcement to avert future occurrences.
The assault took place on the evening of December 26 near the railway quarters adjacent to the Tiruttani railway station in Tiruvallur district.
According to police reports, four boys aged 17 were implicated in the attack on the Odisha native with sickles.
These assailants allegedly filmed the assault on their mobile devices and subsequently shared the footage on social media, igniting widespread public outrage.
Local residents alerted the police, who arrived promptly to rescue the injured victim, who was then transported to a hospital for medical care.
The migrant worker sustained severe injuries from the attack. Following the incident, the police apprehended the four minors involved and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crime, including the potential influence of drugs. Authorities have pledged to enforce the law rigorously.
