Chennai, Dec 29 (NationPress) AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami vehemently criticized the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government on Monday following a shocking incident where a group of teenagers reportedly assaulted a youth with sharp objects on a moving train, labeling it a representation of the total breakdown of law and order in the state.
In response to reports indicating that four 17-year-old boys, allegedly armed with knives, attacked a youth named Suraj on a train traveling from Chennai to Tiruttani, Palaniswami expressed that this incident has profoundly disturbed the community.
It has been reported that the assailants were in possession of sharp weapons and are believed to have been under the influence of drugs during the attack.
In a pointed statement, the AIADMK leader described the visuals of the attack as “heart-wrenching,” highlighting the perilous trend in which society seems to be heading.
“This is a time when children should be engaging with books, not wielding lethal weapons. The reality that minors are freely carrying knives and drugs reflects a severe failure of the State government,” he asserted.
Palaniswami questioned who should be held responsible for what he termed a collapse in law enforcement.
“Is it not the Chief Minister’s duty to ensure that drugs do not infiltrate school environments? When minors resort to violence under the influence of narcotics, it showcases a complete governance failure,” he remarked.
He accused the DMK government, under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, of neglecting the escalating issue of drug abuse and the increasing incidents of violent crime.
“Despite lofty promises made on various occasions, the government has failed to safeguard society, particularly the youth. What value do speeches and slogans hold when the future generation is being endangered?” Palaniswami questioned.
The AIADMK leader called for stringent legal measures against those involved in the incident and urged immediate actions to tackle drug trafficking and restore law and order in Tamil Nadu.
He appealed to the government to enhance policing, boost surveillance measures, and implement decisive actions to prevent such occurrences in the future.
“The people of Tamil Nadu are attentive. This government must awaken and take decisive action before more innocent lives are jeopardized,” Palaniswami concluded.
