What led to the arrest of the domestic worker for killing a pet dog in Bengaluru?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Nov 4 (NationPress) A female domestic worker has been apprehended on allegations of killing a pet dog within the confines of a lift in an apartment complex in Bengaluru. The suspect, known as Pushpalatha, reportedly ended the life of the puppy by forcefully slamming it against the lift's floor.
Raashi Poojari, the pet's owner, filed a police report against the maid after CCTV footage emerged showing Pushpalatha violently abusing the animal.
The video evidence revealed Pushpalatha swinging the small dog by its leash and repeatedly smashing it against the floor, an act of appalling cruelty.
Following the incident, Pushpalatha concocted a story, asserting that the puppy had accidentally fallen while exiting the lift. However, when the pet's owner consulted the security staff about the situation, their reactions sparked suspicion. A review of the CCTV footage ultimately unveiled the horrific truth.
Initial investigations indicate that the accused committed the brutal act while escorting the dog for a walk. The tragic event occurred on October 31 but only became public knowledge on Monday.
Pushpalatha had been employed by Poojari for over a month, specifically as a caretaker for her dog, 'Goofy'.
On Tuesday, Raashi shared with the media, "The accused was receiving a monthly salary of Rs 25,000. Suddenly, she killed my pet. I cannot fathom her motive. There had been no recent arguments or issues between us."
"There were absolutely no problems. The pet was never aggressive or troublesome. The caretaker has provided no justification for her actions - she simply took my dog's life without reason. I am left without any answers," Raashi expressed.
"I held a deep bond with my pet, having cared for the puppy for four years. I hired her to specifically look after and feed my dog while I attended college. On the day of the incident, she claimed she was taking the dog out, and moments later returned, saying the pet wasn't waking up. Initially, I thought it might have injured its leg. But when I rushed to check, I found the puppy lying motionless with its tongue hanging out," she recounted.
"At that moment, I had no suspicions about the caretaker. We traveled to Kengeri to perform the final rites for my pet. Throughout the ordeal, the accused appeared calm and unaffected. Later that evening, my doubts grew, and I sought clarification from the security staff. They mentioned that the incident likely happened either inside or outside the lift. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, we finally uncovered the truth of what transpired," Raashi said.
"The caretaker had always been close to us and had behaved well; I had never suspected her. I was horrified to witness her swinging and smashing my dog against the lift's floor," she concluded.
