Bengaluru, Nov 20 (NationPress) - A man has been taken into custody in Bengaluru for reportedly misbehaving with a woman while pretending to show affection to her pet dog, according to police statements released on Thursday.
The incident unfolded around 10:30 p.m. on November 7 within the jurisdiction of the Jnanabharati police station. The suspect allegedly snatched the woman’s mobile phone before making his escape.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Anita Haddannavar revealed that a case has been filed under Sections 74, 75(2), 303(2), and 115(2) of the BNS Act. “The suspect has been located and apprehended. The stolen mobile device has also been retrieved,” she confirmed.
Further information about the suspect is still pending, she added.
According to the woman's complaint, she was out for a walk with her dog in Upkar Layout when the man approached her, requesting permission to pet the animal. Assuming him to be a dog enthusiast, she consented. After petting the dog, he allegedly made inappropriate physical contact with her. When she resisted, he attempted to assault her again, leading her to slap him.
During the scuffle, her mobile phone fell. Before nearby witnesses could step in, the man snatched it up and fled. Subsequently, the woman lodged a complaint, prompting police to initiate a search and analyze CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator.
This incident occurs against the backdrop of two other recent assaults on women in the city.
On November 9, a man allegedly attempted to sexually assault a differently-abled woman in MR Nagar under the Audugodi Police jurisdiction while under the influence of marijuana.
On November 6, authorities apprehended a Rapido driver accused of harassing a female passenger. The situation came to light after the woman shared her experience on social media. Police's social media monitoring unit located her post, reached out for more details, and filed a case. The suspect has been identified as Lokesh, 28, from Muniyappa Layout in Ullal.
