Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced on Thursday that the state government is launching a special bus service in anticipation of the Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026. This dedicated service will operate from Badarpur Border Metro Station to Surajkund Mela Ground.
The mela, known as one of the largest cultural and handicrafts festivals in India, draws millions of domestic visitors, artisans, families, and international tourists each year, taking place in Faridabad, Haryana.
To ensure smooth travel and to mitigate issues related to overcrowding or unfair pricing by private vehicles, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will run this special route on a trial basis from January 31 to February 15, according to Minister Singh.
The DTC has also collaborated with the Haryana Transport Department for efficient inter-state bus operations, as the mela ground is located within Haryana.
As part of this initiative, DTC will deploy two electric nine-meter buses covering approximately 4 kilometers from Badarpur Border Metro Station to Surajkund Mela Ground.
The route will include stops at Badarpur Metro Station, Badarpur Border, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Prahladpur, Surajkund Chowk, and Manav Rachna School, ensuring easy last-mile connectivity for commuters using the metro.
The eco-friendly buses aim to decrease traffic congestion and promote sustainable transportation while providing a comfortable and reliable service to visitors.
The bus service will run at regular intervals throughout the day, with departures from Badarpur Border Metro Station to Surajkund Mela every 20 minutes between 10 a.m. and 2:35 p.m.
In the return direction, buses will operate from Surajkund Mela to Badarpur Border Metro Station from 10:20 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.
The complete timetable will be available at the metro station, bus stops, and the mela premises to assist passengers, as stated by Minister Singh.
This initiative is projected to significantly improve access to the mela, promote public transport usage, alleviate traffic congestion, and offer a safe and cost-effective travel solution for thousands of daily attendees.
Minister Singh remarked, "Surajkund Mela is a significant cultural event that draws visitors from all over India and beyond. Our aim is to provide safe, dependable, and affordable public transport so that families and tourists can travel without hassle."
He emphasized that the dedicated DTC bus service will guarantee smooth last-mile connectivity from the metro station to the mela grounds while advocating for clean and eco-friendly transportation.
