Eastern Railway Implements Special Measures for Maha Kumbh Mela, Offers 17,000 Berths

Kolkata, Dec 31 (NationPress) Eastern Railway (ER) has declared that it has made comprehensive arrangements for individuals intending to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela, which will take place in Prayagraj starting January 14, 2025. As per officials, over 17,000 berths have been made available on special trains that will operate during this grand event.
“To provide hassle-free travel and meet the enormous demand of pilgrims for this significant occasion, the Railways is excited to announce the operation of 18 pairs of Kumbh Mela Special trains running between Kamakhya-Tundla and Bhagalpur-Kanpur Central. This effort will create over 17,000 berths, ensuring safe, comfortable, and convenient travel options for devotees on their spiritual journey,” stated Kausik Mitra, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Eastern Railway.
The 04153 Kanpur Central-Bhagalpur Kumbha Mela Special will depart from Kanpur Central every Monday at 2 p.m. from January 6 to February 17, 2025, arriving in Bhagalpur at 9:15 a.m. the following day. A total of five trips are scheduled. The train will halt at Sultanganj, Monghyr, Begusarai, Barauni, Hajipur, Pataliputra, Danapur, Ara, Buxar, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, and Fatehpur stations in both directions. The trains will provide accommodations in general second class, sleeper class, and air-conditioned compartments.
The 05611 Kamakhya-Tundla Kumbha Mela Special will commence from Kamakhya at 5:30 a.m. on January 9 and 25, as well as February 8 and 22, 2025, reaching Tundla at 7:20 p.m. the next evening. The 05612 Tundla-Kamakhya Kumbha Mela Special will leave Tundla at 3 a.m. on January 11 and 27, and February 10 and 24, 2025, arriving in Kamakhya at 5:45 p.m. the following day. This train will stop at Malda town, New Farakka, Barharwa, Sahibganj, Kahalgaon, Bhagalpur, Sultanganj, Jamalpur, and Abhaipur stations throughout ER’s jurisdiction in both directions. Reservations for these special trains can be made via the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and online.
“Additionally, ER has revealed the operation of 42 pairs of special trains for travel to and from Prayagraj, simplifying the journey for Maha Kumbha Mela attendees. Among these, 11 pairs will operate between Malda Town and Prayagraj, 27 pairs between Howrah and Tundla via Prayagraj, and four pairs between Howrah and Bhind via Prayajraj. These trains are tailored to ensure that devotees from the eastern and northeastern regions of India can easily access the holy city. The trains are equipped with improved safety and comfort features to manage the high number of travelers. Special attention is given to maintaining punctuality, cleanliness, and hygiene throughout the journey,” Mitra concluded.
