Key Takeaways
Faridabad, Jan 31 (NationPress) The 39th edition of the Surajkund International Crafts Mela has officially kicked off today, January 31, in Faridabad, Haryana, generating a surge of excitement and enthusiasm on an international scale. This vibrant mela, running until February 15, is a magnificent celebration of crafts, arts, and cultural diversity, featuring Egypt as this year's partner nation.
In an interview with IANS during the inauguration, Haryana Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma emphasized the importance of the event, calling it more than just a mela, but a “craft festival” that garners immense interest even before it officially begins. “People start asking about the dates and details months in advance. The excitement is tangible, and it continues to escalate every year,” Sharma remarked.
Last year, the mela welcomed participation from 44 countries, but this year's event has exceeded expectations with over 50 nations involved. Almost 700 participants have already arrived, and the anticipated footfall is expected to surpass the 15 to 16 lakh figure recorded in previous years. Sharma noted that the growing number of visitors reflects the increasing popularity and the trust people have in the mela. “The allure of the event and the faith it inspires are increasing daily,” he stated.
For safety, more than 2,000 police officers have been deployed for security, with additional forces anticipated during weekends. The mela will also be monitored extensively through CCTV, enhancing overall safety. “This event has truly evolved from local to global,” Sharma confidently stated.
The Surajkund Mela is renowned for turning the typically tranquil Surajkund Road into a lively cultural epicenter. Artisans, performers, and food vendors from across India and beyond unite to showcase their traditional arts, crafts, and culinary talents, making it one of the most eagerly awaited events in the cultural calendar.
With dazzling lighting, upgraded grounds, and captivating cultural displays, this year's mela promises to deliver an unforgettable experience.
