Shweta Tripathi on Diwali gifts: 'Books over hampers, keep the person in mind'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress Shweta Tripathi Sharma has a clear philosophy when it comes to Diwali gifting — it should reflect the recipient's personality, not default to a generic hamper. Speaking ahead of the festival, she shared her personal gifting preferences and also revealed her latest creative venture: a bindi collection titled 'Jhilmil', designed in collaboration with Shringar, a bindi shop in Santacruz, Mumbai.
Gifting Philosophy: Thoughtful Over Generic
Shweta was candid about what she thinks makes a Diwali gift meaningful. 'I think Diwali gifts should be useful. I don't like gifts that serve no purpose at all. Sometimes there are hampers and PR gifts, but I feel one gift fits all should not be the approach. If you are gifting someone, keep that person in mind. Of course, your personality as the person giving the gift matters, but so does the personality of the person receiving it,' she said.
The actress, known for her grounded sensibility, went on to reveal what her ideal gift looks like. 'I love books, so if someone gifts me a book on every occasion, every season or every festival, I would be more than happy,' she added.
The 'Jhilmil' Bindi Collection with Shringar
Beyond gifting advice, Shweta unveiled a festive collaboration close to her heart. Her collective, Team Batata Vada, has partnered with Shringar — a neighbourhood bindi shop in Santacruz — to design a curated bindi line. '"Jhilmil" is the name of the collection, and it is a gift for anyone and everyone who enjoys a little jhilmil in their life,' she said. The tie-up blends a homegrown aesthetic with the festive spirit of Diwali 2026, and also includes a small decoration at the Santacruz shop.
Mirzapur: The Movie and the Franchise Journey
Shweta is currently basking in the success of Mirzapur: The Movie, which released in cinemas on 4 September 2026 and has been receiving a strong audience response. The film marks the franchise's transition from an OTT series to the big screen, with Shweta reprising her role alongside a stellar ensemble cast.
The film features Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi, Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Abhishek Banerjee. It also stars Ravi Kishan, Jitendra Kumar, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chaddha, and Sonal Chauhan, among others.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written and created by Puneet Krishna, the film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment.
The Mirzapur Legacy
The original Mirzapur series premiered on OTT in 2018 and quickly became one of India's most-watched crime dramas. Its second season arrived in 2020, followed by a third season in 2024. The cinematic outing in 2026 represents a significant escalation for a franchise that built its identity on streaming — a move that underlines the growing appetite for IP-driven theatrical releases in India.
With Diwali 2026 in full swing, Shweta Tripathi Sharma appears to be making the most of the season — on screen, in the festive marketplace, and in spirit.
