New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) Bollywood actress Shweta Tripathi has discussed how her journey to a fashion institute has profoundly influenced her life and her outlook on various aspects.

In a dialogue about fashion and contemporary styles, Shweta mentioned to IANS: “Fashion is intriguing, but beyond fashion, design truly captivates me—it's the subject I’ve immersed myself in. Attending NIFT significantly transformed my life and altered my viewpoints on numerous topics.”

The actress expresses a clear interest in current trends.

“However, I don’t feel pressured by them. Just because something is popular doesn’t mean I must adopt it. There’s no obligation for me. If I notice a trend, I enjoy exploring it, and if it resonates with me, I will definitely give it a go—but I never impose stress on myself because it’s trending,” shared Shweta, who holds a degree in fashion communication.

Having started her film journey as a production assistant and associate director, she emphasized that any new style she tries is out of genuine curiosity: “It’s more of a ‘Let’s see how this looks on me’ approach.”

“Many trends might not align with our personalities or suit us physically. If I spot something that I think would look great on my best friend—like if I believe it would suit Mallika Dua—I’ll send it her way. Or if I think my mother-in-law might appreciate it, I will share it with her, too,” added Shweta, who made her Bollywood debut in 2015 with “Masaan.”

“That’s how I engage with trends.”

Shweta enjoys experimenting with her looks.

“Fortunately, my profession allows for that because I get to embody various characters. For instance—take Shikha from Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein—her aesthetic is vastly different from mine. Or even Golu from Mirzapur—her style is entirely distinct. Yet, trends also inspire me in those scenarios,” she explained.

“If I come across something that seems fitting for a specific character, or for a new role I might take on, I think, ‘This could work well for that.’ Hence, trends provide me with a wealth of creative inspiration. I cherish the zeitgeist—the essence of the times reflected through trends.”

She remarked that classics endure for a reason.

“However, I don’t wear or do anything merely because it’s ‘expected’ to be stylish or fashionable. I dictate my own choices. I go with what appeals to me—be it a classic or based on my mood and comfort. For me, that’s paramount: I need to feel like myself.”
