Kolkata, July 13 (NationPress) East Bengal FC has officially secured the signing of Indian national team forward Edmund Lalrindika from Inter Kashi FC on a three-year contract, the transfer fee remains undisclosed. He will don the iconic jersey number 10.
After a five-year absence, Edmund returns to the Red & Gold Brigade, having previously played for East Bengal during the 2019-20 I-League season while on loan from Bengaluru FC. He made an impressive debut in a Kolkata derby against Mohun Bagan on January 19, 2020, providing an assist, but an unfortunate injury during that match cut his time short.
Expressing his excitement about returning, Edmund stated, “I’ve always dreamed of coming back to East Bengal. I sustained an injury on my debut during my first stint. It couldn’t be more unfortunate, especially since it happened at the VYBK derby. Now that I’m back, I feel I have some unfinished business here. I aim to give my all, score goals, and win derbies and tournaments for this esteemed club. The East Bengal fans showed me immense love five years ago, and now I want to demonstrate my true capabilities. Joy East Bengal!”
Hailing from Mizoram, Edmund is a versatile attacker, excelling as a centre-forward, winger, and attacking midfielder. In the 2024-25 season, he played 1,846 minutes across 24 matches for Inter Kashi, netting four goals and assisting six times.
The 26-year-old has been a standout performer in the last two I-League seasons, scoring 8 goals and providing 13 assists.
Welcoming him back, Thangboi Singto, Head of Football at East Bengal FC, remarked, “Edmund’s return is a significant boost for us. His proven track record, versatility, and knowledge of East Bengal’s ethos and passionate fan base make him an exciting addition. We are confident he will play a crucial role in our quest for major titles.”
A graduate of the AIFF Elite Academy, Edmund was part of the Bengaluru FC setup from 2019 to 2024 before transferring on loan to Inter Kashi in 2023. He has represented India at various youth levels, making his senior national team debut in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Kuwait at Kolkata’s Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on June 6, 2024.
“Edmund is fresh off a remarkable season with Inter Kashi, earning well-deserved call-ups to the national team. We’ve monitored his performances closely and are thrilled to have secured a player who is growing in stature and can significantly impact diverse attacking situations,” said Oscar Bruzon, Head Coach of East Bengal FC.
