Is Jay Gupta the Latest Star for East Bengal FC on a Four-Year Deal?

Kolkata, Sep 9 (NationPress) East Bengal FC has made an official announcement regarding the acquisition of India international defender Jay Gupta, who is set to join the club on a four-year contract from FC Goa for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Gupta has been instrumental in FC Goa’s recent triumph in the Kalinga Super Cup this year, along with his contributions to the team's back-to-back ISL semi-final appearances, which included a commendable second-place finish in the league phase last season. He will don the jersey number 27.

Originally from Pune, Gupta is celebrated for his football acumen, physical presence, and his ability to aid both defensively and offensively. At just 23 years old, he can play as a left-back or left center-back, adding versatility to the Red & Gold Brigade’s defensive lineup.

After honing his skills in the youth ranks of the now-defunct FC Pune City, Gupta ventured abroad, training and playing in Portugal with clubs like GDS Cascais and Estoril Praia B, and later in Spain at Ebre Escola Esportiva.

Returning to India in mid-2023, Gupta quickly made his mark at FC Goa, where he completed 52 appearances over two seasons. In his 42 Indian Super League (ISL) matches to date, Gupta has recorded 2 goals, 3 assists, 10 clean sheets, 23 interceptions, 51 successful tackles, 200 successful duels, and 49 clearances across 2,860 minutes. His standout performance awarded him the ISL Emerging Player of the Month title for October 2023.
