Is the EC in Bengal Demanding Declarations from State Employees?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 6 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) is requesting a declaration from employees of the West Bengal government to affirm their status as non-duplicate voters, meaning those who do not have their names listed in multiple voter registries.
The declaration must adhere to specific formats provided by the election authority. Furthermore, it has been emphasized that if any state government employee is found to have their name listed in more than one location, it is their duty to notify the appropriate booth-level officer to rectify the issue.
In the designated form issued by the commission, each state government employee must outline their current voter status in West Bengal. They are also required to declare if they are registered as a voter in more than one location.
Should there be a change in voting location for any reason, including relocation, this information must be included in the required form. In cases of duplicate listings, state government employees must also indicate whether they have previously requested the removal of their name from one of the locations.
A copy of the mandated form is available through IANS. Presently, the number of state government employees in West Bengal stands at approximately 10 lakh.
“By requesting this declaration, the Commission aims to ensure accountability among state government employees to prevent duplicate voting. If any state employee submits inaccurate information, it will also be documented in the declaration format with the Commission. In instances of false information provided, the Commission may take necessary legal action against the respective state government employees,” revealed an insider from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the state.
