Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a call to action for voters to utilize the ECINET platform to gather essential information regarding candidates’ academic backgrounds and criminal history ahead of the Assembly Elections and by-elections scheduled for 2026.
In a recent press statement, the ECI underscored the significance of making well-informed voting decisions, asserting that citizens can conveniently access critical details about candidates through the "Know Your Candidates" feature found on ECINET.
The Commission announced the election schedule for the Assemblies of Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, as well as bye-elections for eight Assembly constituencies in Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Tripura on March 15.
Per the ECI, there are 1,955 candidates competing for elections in the Assemblies of Assam and Kerala, the Union Territory of Puducherry, and bye-elections in four states slated for April 9.
Additionally, the filing of nominations for the Assembly elections in West Bengal (Phase I and II) and Tamil Nadu has commenced. Candidates must withdraw their nominations by April 9 for Tamil Nadu and West Bengal (Phase I), and by April 13 for West Bengal (Phase II).
With the "Know Your Candidates" module available under the 'Conduct of Elections' section on ECINET, voters can find comprehensive information, such as candidates’ criminal cases, financial declarations, educational qualifications, and verified social media accounts. The platform also enables users to download the full affidavit (Form 26) submitted by candidates.
The ECI describes ECINET as the world’s largest electoral service platform, integrating over 40 applications and portals to deliver a cohesive experience for voters in the largest democracy globally.
ECINET provides various services including voter registration, electoral roll searches, application tracking, communication with election officials, scheduling calls with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), e-EPIC downloads, polling trends, and grievance resolution.
Moreover, ECINET offers a single-window system for real-time information access and complaint handling. It features tools like cVIGIL for reporting violations and Saksham to ensure electoral services are accessible for individuals with disabilities, as noted by the Commission.
