Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 22 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially introduced ECINET, a comprehensive digital platform designed to centralize all election-related services and information during the India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM) 2026.
This three-day event, running from January 21-23, is taking place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, in collaboration with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, conceptualized ECINET, with its development being announced back in May 2025.
At the launch event, CEC Gyanesh Kumar emphasized that ECINET has been crafted in full compliance with legal standards and is accessible in 22 scheduled languages alongside English.
He extended an invitation to global election management bodies (EMBs) to join India in developing similar digital frameworks tailored to their national laws and languages.
Election Commissioner Sandhu praised ECINET as a vital instrument for fostering trust in EMBs, enhancing transparency, facilitating function monitoring, and supporting rapid decision-making and information sharing.
Commissioner Joshi remarked that the conference offers EMBs the chance to learn from international best practices regarding technological adoption and digital innovation.
During her presentation, Seema Khanna, Director General of Information Technology, highlighted that cybersecurity is a fundamental aspect of ECINET.
She reiterated that technology has evolved from a support role to a strategic enabler, asserting that ECINET boosts transparency, efficiency, credibility, and public confidence in elections.
As the largest electoral service platform globally, ECINET unifies all electoral services of the world’s most populous democracy into a single, seamless experience by integrating over 40 applications and portals from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The platform is fully aligned with the Constitution of India, the Representation of the People Acts of 1950 and 1951, the Registration of Electors Rules of 1960, and the Conduct of Election Rules of 1961.
ECINET connects citizens, candidates, political parties, and election officials, offering essential services such as voter registration, electoral roll searches, application tracking, candidate information, communication with election officials, e-EPIC downloads, polling trends, grievance resolution, and more, all within a secure platform.
The beta version was successfully tested during the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), allowing the Election Commission to enhance citizen-centric electoral services and provide comprehensive election-related information at the touch of a button.
